Buckeye Chicken Breeders

Hi everyone! Long time no post in the Buckeye thread. Just wanted to say HI, and also, that I set 12 Buckeye eggs in my new IncuView incubator today. Is it safe to set eggs from 11 month old pullet mothers? Or should I have waited. And, are Buckeye eggs tannish in color, or true brown. Just wondering.

From the 12 eggs I set March 30, 5 were infertile, but 7 hatched out on Sat.April 19th....2 were mal-positioned yet hatched out fine anyway, even if it took them 25 hours...the last 2 popped out with 5 minutes of each other. I used an IncuView incubator, and can safely say, it's a wonderful little device. The incubator maintained temp and humidity flawlessly. Cleaning it is terrific because everything is plastic.

The Buckeye chicks are so adorable and sweet and balanced in nature, I can't get over how happy and well adjusted they are. I guess I'm just talking to myself, but that's okay. Maybe some random reader might pass by looking for info oncuviews...here's a not too great shot of them.

Actually, I am trying to find some Buckeye chicks in my area. I can't order 25 at this time, so most won't ship to me (which I do understand for the sake of the chicks.). However, I can't drive for hours and hours just to pick up a few (4-5) chicks. So far, I have only been able to possibly place a special order for 5 chicks with the help of my tiny, local feed store, through Privette Hatchery. Any ideas on the health and quality of their Buckeyes?

Hi. I am not sure about that hatchery. I don't know anyone who has ordered buckeyes from them. Have you checked the breeder list at the beginning of this thread? I don't believe there are any in Washington but new breeders are added often.

Yes, and I have been to both Buckeye Clubs' websites for breeders. I have been emailing everyone in the states around me for chicks. Everyone has been super friendly, but many are not set up to ship or they have a minimum order way beyond the number of chickens I can handle right now.
However, I did just hear from lady within an hour
and a half drive. She said I was welcome to come
over. So, I'm cross in my fingers for some chicks. :)

@Scottiemom, If you can get chicks within 1 1/2 hours, Sounds like the deal you're looking for. I wanted the Lay line Buckeyes and drove 8 hours to pick up hatching eggs.

My Pet CHicken might have buckeyes now.

So, I am hoping for the nearby breeder. I think that would be best.
Ariell-Thank you for the lead. I checked the site and they do have Buckeyes at My Pet Chicken, but for my area, minimum order for heavy breeds is 6.
I think I will hope for the breeder. If not, I will go towards my feed store. If nothing else works out, maybe I can find some other people in the area (like through Craig's List) that would be interested in a small number of Buckeye chicks, and then order a larger quantity.
Thanks for all the input! I really appreciate it! :)
