Buckeye X Cornish X breeding project. Third generation pics pg. 20

Neat! How'd I miss that!

LoL, anywho, they sure are A LOT prettier than my cornish. I am on my first batch and I am surprised by just how DIRTY they are! Even with a clean coop and clean yard to freerange! I don't know how they do it. Yours look like they have all the good qualities of a Cornish, without the bad! I can't wait for my girls to start laying eggs; they are 10 weeks old now. Am I right that they started laying around 16-20 weeks? Also, I've been thinking about cutting back more on the feed and upping the amount of grass they eat, what do you think? Will you be selling any hatching eggs or chicks from these guys?

Thanks!

Ya, I agree... less protein and more forage it will make their manure not so bad. Use a lot of straw or I like Katy's idea on the sand as it would act like a big chicken litter box.

Mine didn't lay until about 24 weeks but it was this time of year and I didn't light them. My new ones on pg. 13 have started laying but they slacked off, probably due to weather. I haven't had time to get them situated because of weather but today is in the 50's so I don't have an excuse now. LOL.

I'm going to do the females back to a buckeye rooster and then the one lone male over some buckeye females. After I get some chicks on the ground I'm going to have them bred to each other to see what I get. So hopefully I will have three different crosses to work with to see what results bring what. Totally clueless but going to do the best I can.

Jeff.....

I did a maran/standard cornish and a JG/cornish last spring. would it be any advantage to cross them before I go back to the cornish? I did the JG for size and maran for a faster maturity.
