Buff Barred Cochin Thread

Love looking at all your beauties on here!
I do not get on here often enough. Too many projects, too many chickens, ducks, turkeys, peafowl and now dairy goats. However, I haven't given up the buff barred project. I have been hatching quite a few actually. They are my new favorite variety! (Don't tell the others! They all think they are my favorites!)
I haven't taken many photos of my kids growing up but the brooders are growing some lovely babies.

This is a buff barred and one from my red creole project.

Here is a young boy that went to live in CO. I loved his pattern but I already have 7 nice roosters so this boy was nice enough to be sold for a beginning to someone else's project. I will ship out pullets later to go with this boy.

One of several nicely barred pullets that are growing up.

I had a friend come over and walk through the pens with me and give suggestions on breeding. Barring has never been something I have worked with and he gave me ideas I would never have thought of even after studying the genetics on them. I put the birds together that he suggested and we will see what that produces.
A lot of my girls are going broody at this point though. Driving me nuts but I am setting a lot of eggs from others so maybe that is a good thing.

So what is in your brooders?

Nice to see you back Amy. That looks like a really nice cockerel you sold. I just checked your website out again and can't believe how many Buff Barreds you have now. Looks like your really getting into them and I bet it will show come this fall when your showing us what you've gotten from hatching this spring. Your really making me jealous. LOL

Hi all, I am still hanging in there. Everyone's pics look great! I finally got breeding pens set up, and so far 4 out of 4 chicks hatched, 7 eggs are in lockdown with 1 hatching as I type.

I need to take new pics as these don't do the birds justice but this is what I have so far.

Breeding Pen #1 - 1 buff (double barred) cock, 2 buff barred cocks, 1 buff hen and 2 buff pullets.
Breeding Pen #2 - growing out
Breeding Pen #3 - 2 buff cocks from either Kevin Watts or Bob Hawes (I need to check leg bands), 1 buff columbian hen Kevin Watts let me have from Craig, and 2 buff pullets hatched from Kevin Watts eggs.

From pen #2 - 4 pullets hatched from Kevin Watts eggs. 2 are now in Pen #1 and 2 are in Pen #3

Hi! I have a single lemon barred/cuckoo Cochin bantam gal that I got from a BYC friend. I had 2 others along with her, a cockerel and pullet, but had a sad flock wipe-out a while back that took them both. I love this girl to pieces and would love to have more of her kind. Anyone happen to be selling hatching eggs currently?

Her parents' barring pattern was very nice, but hers turned out kind of washed out and all over the place.

I love her anyways.

Dolly:

She doesn't have any dark feathers, she's just perpetually dirty it seems.

Beautiful birds Amy and Mary!
She's a cutie Shaybaby -- I wish I would have logged on & checked out this thread yesterday! I could have sent a batch of eggs out today. If you're still looking I can send some next Tuesday

Lil Man has his hens finally. 2 Buff Barred and 1 Blue/ MF split. They are all from my 2012 flock but I was lucky enough to get them back for just a couple dozen hatching eggs.
