Buff Barred Cochin Thread

I am barely starting. I have a long way to go yet. I sure do love this variety though. I am finding them to be a bit sassy though, not like my other varieties. Must be red heads!

Oh really? Mine aren't at all, not even the boys, not even with each other. My MF boys now, after having all lived together and gotten along all winter, have started fighting among themselves now that the brutal winter is finally over. . I'm looking forward to getting them separated and set up!

Ha! I jinxed myself! I went to town today, came home and Sammy met me in the driveway, all bloodied! Must have been quite a scrap.

At long last ... Over a year ago I got 2 Buff and 1 Barred Hen and 1 Barred Rooster from Tom Roebuck. A couple of the hens had some age on them and are slow layers. The first year, I couldn't get any to hatch. I let them out to free range during the days and get some exercise and fresh air. This Spring they have already layed more eggs than they did all last year.

The first one has just hatched today. It is LF Buff Barred Cochin, which is what I've been dreaming of producing. I love the LF Cochins and have a bunch of Blacks, and Blues in the incubator, but this is my very first LF Buff Barred. I have some gorgeous Bantam ones from a breeding pair I got from Lynn.

Here he/she is.
