Buff Barred Cochin Thread

Thanks Lynne. I don't know if you remember Sunshine Roo who I from Nancy but that's his only offspring that I know of before I lost him. Her mother was a blue/mottled.

I need to get more updated photos. My babies are growing up! I am always so afraid for them to be outside they spend way too much time in the brooder room and stalls. Now that I have a lot more I will probably start chancing some outside. I just worry so about predators, storms, etc.

I know they lighten as they get older but this little boy is dark compared to my boys that have the double barring.

I need to get more photos of the barred girls but I haven't gotten much of any lately.

Lovely dark boy Amy. I bet he will be a stud!

I think I've found what I really want to strive for in this project. I'm not as focused on perfecting as much as some of you and I think I'm going to try and continue to keep the mostly white body with yellow hackle and saddle feathers that PB had and Lil Man is starting to get. I don't care for the amount of black in Lil Mans hackles but it adds to is character I guess. So I guess from here on out my main focus with these cochins is to make more like PB was. When I had Nugget, I wasn't as "fascinated" I guess you would say, with him as much as I am with these boys. He was a drop dead gorgous rooster but I am really focusing on what I am pleased with rather than what is the correct color I guess now. It could be a bad thing but I'm definitely making more fun out of my projects now than ever.
Father- PB

Son- Lil Man

I think I'm seeing a slight resemblance between them asides from the black hackles!

Amy, I guess I'm like you & Mike....There are certain colors of this project that I like more than others. I have 2 beautiful BB roos. They are heavily barred, super type but one throws (with the same hens) the light double barred chicks & the other gives me chicks with dark barring (some with slight black). All the chicks are lovely but the darker ones with a touch of black are my favorite. I think it is the contrast that appeals to me. Like Nancy said to Mike...Breed what makes you happy~!!!! Amen :)
