buff brahma crosses question

Buff Brahma rooster over BR hen would be sex linked. Males would be barred with a head spot. BRs are fabulous layers-they are my best layers. I have some as old as 5 years old still laying regularly. Actually, my hatchery Brahmas were pretty decent layers for the first three to four years, but mine are over 5 now and haven't laid in awhile.

cool. I like my barred rocks too. I take it then the hens would be solid?

Well, they should mostly be solid, I believe, maybe with a tiny bit of gold ticking around the neck area. Buff is a complicated color at times. The only actual Buff Brahma crosses I was able to make here were Blue Orp rooster over Buff Brahma hen. All hens were solid blue or black. All males were blue or black with lots of buff/gold in wing bows and hackles, very handsome and huge birds.

I do know that barred mothers pass on barring to their sons only, so those males would have a head spot, though at times, it may not be really distinctive.

ignore that last post. I was replying to previous page thinking it was new post and don't know how to remove it now lol. Anyhow, thanks speckledhen for the info. I am lookng forward to see how they come out. One more week, fingers crossed.

I incubated a few of my white silky eggs and hatched 2 chicks recently, thinking dad was a little mille fleur d'uccle. Unfortunately our buff brahma roo (LF) has been declared the pappy. One is whitish with dark streaks, and the other is black, brown, and white, almost barred looking, but cute. They tower over the mille roo at 8 weeks. I will try to post a pic, but I am challenged here with reguards to pics.

Well, today or tomorrow was my expected hatch day. So far only one hatched and one pipped. Odd thing is, the only one to hatch is one of my EE eggs. It was from a EE rooster that was mostly white. This not THE rooster, but very similar coloring. The hen it came from was a blue splash and the prettiest blue egg you ever saw. The chick hasn't completely dried yet, but it looks like it is COMPLETELY white, like a leghorn chick. Seems kinda odd to me.

Id like to see pics too!! As I have amber sexlinks x brahma in my bator, cant wait to see the mix!!!

I also have a buff brahma rooster and leg horn hens.
I hatch there eggs and the chicks are a cream color some have the feather feet.
mine did turn white but in some you could see streaks of brown.
I think it is neat to see the different patterns on them.

Hi Liz Hill - were the babies sex linked? I had two hatch today that were RIR x White Leghorn. One is totally yellow, the other has some red patches.
