Hi Friends,

I have Buff Cochins chicks. They were fine and active when I bought them. But now two of them are now got lazy and not eating anything. Plz can anyone shed a light on it or recommend me anything to make them well.

They are 10 days old and I'm keeping them in a cage with soil in bottom.

I'm living in Lahore, Pakistan so it's summer here and the temperature is around 40 degree celsius in day and 25 degree celsius in night.

Looking forward to hear from you guys.

Thnx,
Omer

ok; I wouldnt keep them on soil; butthats just me...

do you have them under a heat lamp??? with them being so young; they need to have the temp between 85-90...I would suggest if you dont have one;
get a thermometer & a heat lamp...they could be cold...

what are you feeding them?

I do have a lamp with 60 watt bulb. If they feel cold they sleeps in group, but I think they don't need it because they are sleeping alone.

I have removed the soil and place newspaper under them. It's hard to find pine or any wood shavings here in my area.

Yay Chicks! :

Agreed. They might be okay during the day, but cold at night.

Oh, and Welcome to BYC!

Thnx ...

pine or wood shavings should be available at any pet or feed store...

also, newspaper isn't that great as it can result in splay leg. Try puppy pads, paper towels or...pine shavings

Welcome to BYC, i would agree that they are cold. What food are you giving them? also remember if you do get shavings do not get cider, it will kill them, its bad bad bad.

Well! there is a lumber shop ... I can get the wood shavings .... I dont know what cider is ... Can i have the simple wood shavings .... i dont know how to check the shavings .... :s

What type of water source do you have ? The birds can live just fine without all the fancy modern conveniences that America is use to. The food that you give them is probably good enough they just need to be watched so that they do not eat something that birds should not eat such as avocado, grape seeds, raw potatoes, and chocolate, these are just to name a few. the foods that I have listed are toxic to birds and dogs and cats. you can use grasses for a litter material and this will give the chickens food, they will thank you for grass. Are you able to give them a place to walk around and pick up bugs to eat? Little birds are very strong and you are doing great ! If you have a little sugar to put into clean water, this will help to give them energy.

May be that is the case .... I m giving them ground pearl millet, wet bread...
