Buff Dewlap Toulouse Thread

Lucky is in with the two barn geese now. She's not walking, turns out. Julia picked her up this morning, and put her in a cage. She still wasn't up, so off to hospital barn for her.

She and the two buffs are drinking today.

Baby girl is breathing a bit better through her nostrils, its not such a trial for her as it was this morning. Hopefully this is a turn in her road, and off to the village of good health soon.

We're going to take Petes idea, and go get some watermelon for the barn birdies.

Celtic-Can spike be kept with extra males ducks for now? I don't want him in alone. That would be even sadder than he is now.

Great news about the buffs and baby Girl. Hope Lucky comes out of it also. Do you think shock?

Marty Spike will enjoy the company of others. There will be some pushing and testing of alpha status to be expected. Check Lucky over for bites in the thighs, and joint damage (ankle.knee) tomake sure there isnt something you need to address sooner than later. Glad baby girl is doing better.

Marty I'm SO sorry this happened to you. My ducks aren't laying now, but I can hook you up in the spring. I'm right down the highway. In the meantime, I have 4 mixed breeds that I'd be happy to give your daughter. They are not quite full grown and very sweet. Let me know.

Thanks everyone. I don't think I'm going to add anything (except what I've got coming allready) until we get this all resolved. If we find the owner, and I can get some money back, I'll just get more Anconas and probobly another buff and grey toulouse, so Dude and the extra girl don't have to be alone. We'd hate to do it, buy we're talking about just putting a 6' chain link fence around the back half of the property. I hate the look, but I've got too much in this to risk birds, when even all our current fencing just isn't quite enough. Maybe we need an outdoor duck dog that lives with them.

Celtic, it was Samantha, the sebbie we hatched that was killed. I searched carefully, and could find no metal wing tag. I have also checked out lucky, and can find no breaks, or clear damange. I have found no bite marks, so I'm guess the run and her giant body were at odds, those giant pekings are quite sizeable. Probobly some shock, but she's drinking and hanging with the buffs. She is almost their size, body wise, and was brought up with the sebbies, so shes ok with them, anyway. From the looks of things, a few bites were take on the watermelon, but nobody seems to have an appetite just yet. I hope tomarrow. Tongiht they are surronded by all the other geese (outside of their tiny stall, but in the goose area) and there was much greeting.

Marty keep up your good work on the birds.... All you have done will make the difference in recovery for them all. My prayers are with you and the birds to recover for you.

Marty, so sorry it was Samantha. You would have found it on the right wing in the inner bend (elbow area) and they are brass if it was to be found. Do you have any Nutridrench poultry vitamins? they are an excellent item to add to water of those stressed and recovering. ACV is another item that most cant explain, but just perks those looking puny back up. I hope the owners go looking for their missing dogs. Collars on them is at least a sign they werent dumped hopefully.

All I can say is I'm so sorry for your loss Marty. This is a terrible terrible thing....... and takes me back to when the husky and st. Bernard attacked our goats. The loss of losing such a dear pet is deep and will never be forgotten and the sheer scale of your loss is horrible. I'm sending many prayers your way. It was hard to get through the loss this spring when this happened to our goats but God willing we came through and days got brighter for us. I know the same will happen to you as well. You have an amazing support here at BYC

Gosh Marty, I'm just reading up on this now. What a terrible experience for you & your family to go through. My heart hurts for your loss, but thank goodness there are survivors. I've read "lost dog" posts on craigslist, under the Pets section, so check that to see if anyone posted about the 2 dogs. They look like huskies or malamutes, not an everyday run of the mill type of dog, so I would think that someone has to be looking for them. Not sure if you've thought about this, but maybe check with local animal shelter or Humane Society to see if anyone has contacted them about the missing pair. I really hope you're able to find the owner so that some kind of justice can be achieved. You have been very wise to document everything.

My thoughts are with you and your surviving flock, in hopes that they are able to fully recover.
