Buff Drake?

One of my Buffs

You might want to look into Muscovy or Runners I know for a fact Muscovys make good broodies my Runners haven't gone broody but they came from broody mamas. Only problem with Muscovy's and another domestic duck is the offspring will lay eggs but they will be sterile. Boy I'd take the lighter one in a min if we were close both are gorgeous.

Yikes, If you plan on keeping both drakes 4 is definitely Not enough.. I like to keep the ratios between duck and drakes pretty big since drakes can be harsh on the ducks, Especially during breeding season, The best ratio for drake to ducks is 8 ducks for each drake. 6-4 ducks for 1 drake will do as well but i wound't get anymore drakes.. having 2 drakes and only 6 ducks during breeding season is a nightmare.. Speaking from experience.. If you don't care about getting them locally there are a bunch of online hatcheries that sell ducklings sexed, Such as Mypetchickem, McMurray, IdealPoultry, and PurelyPoultry, All sell sex buff orpington ducks.

The OP is in Australia @MillersFarm :)

My Muscovy drake has 4 females and they are never over mated. But hey the more the merrier to help keep 1 from being targeted . You just never know.
Oh whoops~ Didn't catch that! So cross out hatcheries as an option.. :th

I've never raised Muscovy ducks before (Have been considering it) So i'm not sure how the drakes are? I wouldn't go lower than 4 hens for a drake. Are Muscovy drakes less 'active' than regular drakes?

Oh he has his moments but he has always shared the love between all his females never targeted just 1 thank goodness. My Runner drake has 6 females of his own and I caught him yesterday chasing down one of My Muscovy females lil stinker. My scovy drake never even looks at the Runners or Buffs. Duck dynamics is sure interesting isn't it? lol
