In the Brooder
She has yet to lay her first egg, she is roughly 10 months old. I've read in other threads with other Buff Orphington owners that they can be a bit slower to mature(?).When is the last time she laid an egg? Any trouble with soft shelled eggs?
You mention her crop being empty this morning but squishy? Was it empty/flat or did it have something in there like fluid or doughy?
Is she drinking ok? I would still lean toward her crop not emptying or she's got a partial blockage somewhere in the digestive system. Sometimes there's another condition like reproductive problems causing inflammation and the whole system slows down.
Keep her drinking, the vitamins are fine to give for a few days. If she will eat that's good.
As for the compost, I don't think just a smell of compost out in the open air would cause problems for her, I'm sure the other chickens would have been symptomatic as well if that were the case.
IF She had consumed/eaten from the compost pile when it was turned and ate rotting material, then this could potentially cause some problems.
Doughy is a good word, it did feel like that.
She hasn't been drinking or eating on her own, still feeding her through a spoon and has to be coaxed a bit. Feeding her Harrison's Recovery formula, made it a bit watery for her to slurp out.
I have been alternating between electrolytes/probiotics, Nutridrench (mixed in water), and plain water - all via spoon or dropper.
How long do blockage issues typically take to resolve?
Again, thank you so much for taking time out of your day to respond. I appreciate it more than you know
