Wondering people’s thoughts on my buff Orpington chick? I desperately wanted it to be a hen, but now I’m starting to think it might be a cockerel…. What do you guys think? It’s Around 4-5 weeks old

It's a bit too early to tell, but I'm leaning towards hen. Lucky you! :)
Also, what makes you think she (he?) is a cockerel? Is it behavior? Feathering? Or something else?
Take more photos in about a couple of weeks. I think we'll get a better idea then.

I have Buff's (one of each, RIP Mr Nugget)- and by looking at their old pics, yours is not feathered out a lot for 4-5 wks old. Try adding some more protein and healthy snacks for feather growth. Small amounts of yogurt, cottage cheese, greens from your yard, scrambled eggs, chopped finely kale, mealworms. Provide chick grit if feeding anything other than chick starter. I would lean towards pullet, could be a cockerel and is behind. 5 weeks or so old my roo had a bigger comb with pinkish tone.

Thanks for the info, I actually am starting to think the breeder told me the wrong age when I got them. Also I live in an area with super hot summers and we’ve just had a heatwave of multiple days in the high 30s so I’m wondering if that has slowed down the feather growth 🤷🏼‍♀️
