My year old Biff Orpington hen was just struck by a large hawk (pretty large from what I saw, maybe two and a half feet?) and I'm worried it might come back. It was a gruesome death, and I don't want my other flock members to suffer the same demise. Should I keep them inside? It's been two days, and it hasn't returned, but I don't know if it's nesting nearby or something. What should I do?

Sorry for your loss. So I assume either you let your birds range or have an uncovered run. I let mine range, understanding the risks involved but coupling that with vigilance. If you live in the country as I do, I keep at shotgun handy at all times. When I see a hawk either perching or soaring, I will let let off a couple blasts to spook it off. Seems to keep them away. I don't shoot at them - they're just trying to make a living - but that's how I keep them at bay. Good luck to you!
