Splint for young pullet attacked by hawk - broken toes/foot

Miss Nance is doing great! After I took the splint off, she has been walking normally! Her wounds are barely visible. She will be out with the flock soon. Unfortunately, her other sister got killed by another hawk (she had 2 sisters), so she is all alone :( But I do think there will be a hen or two who might be nice to her as she acclimates.

Sorry that you lost another. Glad that Miss Nance is doing well. I would be inclined to keep her protected in a dog crate with food and water or in the run.
Thank you!

She was in with the meat birds when the attack happened, which is less protected from hawks. The one she'll be going in with the laying hens is about 90% covered by juniper trees (low to ground). I feel better about putting her in that run.

Be a little cautious integrating her in with the big girls. A wire dog crate with food and water is a good way to introduce. Then have some supervised visits with them. I wouldn’t want to see her bullied. Let us know how she gets along.
Thanks! Yeah I put her in the yard with them once already, surrounded by some fencing. I plan to slowly introduce using that makeshift cage. Two of the hens were trying to peck her through the fence and she was pretty freaked out, but I think the more I do it the more they will get used to each other.

Wow! Look at Miss Nance❤️
She looks great.

I sure hope integration goes well. Doing it slowly like you plan is a good idea.

Thanks for updating and the photos, keep us posted on how integration goes.

Thank you! Without you sending me the splinting guide, I'm not sure if I would have ever found a way to straighten the toes. I was striking out on my internet searches. You truly saved her from a life of limping!

I'll keep you updated. Our weather has been horrendous the past two days (rainy, windy, cold), so I haven't gotten her outside again.
