Buff orpington or columbian blacktail and sexing

I'm try to tell the breed and sexy of my 3week old chicks. I know for sure I have One columbian blacktail, and one buff orpington but I'm have trouble splitting which one which. Has anybody every seen a buff like the orange one in the photos. If that one is the buff then I believe the blacktail is a cockrel because a

pparently they are sex linked (yellow ones boy, orange girls). The yellow one is starting to show black colouring slightly. Disregard the excherque leghorn in the background.

far too early for sexing. I'm not making any wagers on your breeds, as the one with red feathers coming in could be a black tail, but the other one isn't a buff orpington. I'd give it a few weeks, take more pics and ask again.

agreed, I don't see any Buff Orpingtons (they are a yellowish/buff color, the one you have is red)

It's too early to know for sure. They all look to have thick legs, which is a sign of cockerels, but as I said, too early to accurately judge them now.

The chick with red feathers coming in is not a buff Orpington, at least not a purebred. It has the wrong leg color and its feathers are much too dark.

Yeah I agree. But whats strange is that is what I bought and what should have been hatched. 1 blacktail 1 buff orpington and an exchequer leghorn.... there is one other possibility that one of them could be a Rhode island red. 1 chick died, but everything looked like it was the Rhode island (numbers on shell and colour of chick)

That looks kind of like a golden comet chick to me. Could be a rhode island red, though it’s down is pretty light.

The mostly white chick could well be the Colombian color pattern. If so, it is probably a Colombian Plymouth rock or maybe a Colombian Leghorn.

I think dunnmom is right-- the red chick is probably a red sex link or production Rhode Island red. If you got them from a feed store or TSC, then it's pretty common for folks to get the wrong breed there.
