thanks! what is 2 toned? and when will i see if the chick is 2 toned.looks like a pullet. if you start to see that the chick is becoming 2 toned then it is a cockerel

... the only problem is that my family is a little iffy about eating fertilized eggs.

I am reallllllly curious about this, too. I have 2 Buff Orpingtons that are about two weeks old, now. They were labeled (guaranteed) to be pullets. I studied up on the whole "feather sexing" thing before picking mine out of the group. Their tails are long and fluffy (like all of my other pullets have been), no pink in the comb, BUT they do have 2-toned looking feathers. -white on the longest wing layer, light tan all over (and 2nd wing layer), and a darker tan coming in on the back at the necks. YIKES! I sure am hoping these are gals, 'cause I already have 2 banty guys that think they own the place.....thanks! what is 2 toned? and when will i see if the chick is 2 toned.
