*Buff Orpington Thread!*

And then a few days later... Yesterday to be exact I drove up to Cackle and bought 15 Easter eggers. Also got two white Cochins and three guineas. Dangerous place to go. Really wanted some splash Cochins but they are out till tomorrow. Not nearly the selection I had expected but still fun to pick out your own babies.
I wish I lived close enough to a hatchery to pick my own babies. We have to mail order which costs serious bucks.

I am an hour south of cackle hatchery and this was my first visit. But not my last.

Hello to everyone I have been on BYC for 2 or 3 years now but have stayed with the Turkey Blog site for most of the time.
I have had Chickens for about 4 years now but decided to go from a mixed flock due to most of my chickens getting older and not laying as much.
To the Buff Orpingtons back in April I took a shipment of Buff chicks and at the end of next month they should be getting close to laying eggs for me.
I did some research on the breed before deciding on them and this is what I discovered about the breed.
There an old American breed a good duel purpose breed meat and egg layer and very good broody Hens.

I would like to hear from the long time owners of the Buffs to tell me there opinions of the breed and if I was correct in what I found on the breed.
I also have read there a very friendly breed of chicken I have seen that for my self more so than the other assorted breeds I have in my older flock.

Hi! Buff orpingtons are absolutely not an old American breed. They are a heritage breed originating near Kent, England a little town called Orpington. They are an excellent dual purpose breed :)
