*Buff Orpington Thread!*

I checked the whole area plus eye area over again. The bird seems to be fine but I am very new to chickens. I gave it a bath just now to see if it helps-. I am not sure what else to do. If problem persists will I need to cull? I don't want to-like I said this is my favorite!!!! I checked over my other birds and see no problems at all. The behavior is normal and all else seems to be fine except the wet wings. When giving him/her a bath I was met with no resistance-I think he/she even liked it. Any guesses at all? What is a problem sign other than wet feathers? Dragonlady mentioned eye but I see nothing wrong with it.

I will take full pics-hold on

This is atypical behavior for a chicken, even sweet BOs. She might be offering no resistance because she lacks the energy to do so.

In our flock that are all mostly the same age, the single BO rooster exhibited rooster behavior since around the 5th week. He was very dominant, pecked at the rest of the chicks and bullied them into submission. He also started crowing at around 5.5 weeks. No other chicken dared to challenge him. We kept him until around 6 week old when we dispatched him because our neighborhood policy does not cater for roosters. But, he was beautiful and his feathers were impeccably male and full of life.

From what I have read, if roosters are raised by their mothers or are raised with older hens, they tend not to be as nasty when relating with other chickens this early. Somehow, it will push their dominance further down the road until they are physically larger and more capable to dominate the flock.

Thank you, Arthury. At 5 months, my roo is already the largest of all the birds-- they're getting close to adult size, and he's bigger than the adult hens. But no crowing, mating, or bullying. He's protective of the two other BO's-- the pullets he was raised with-- but not the rest of the flock. I could see how acting dominant is a personality trait, but I'd think that crowing would happen at a certain point regardless of temperament or situation? Guess I'll just wait and see...

He/she doesn't seem to be lethargic. I have been monitoring to see and so far all is well except the wet feathers. This morning they seemed to be not as wet so hopefully he/she is okay.

That looks like she is being pooped on by somebody. How many is she roosting with ?

I have 4 others out there with him/her (and 3 are in quarantine before being introduced). They don't roost yet. They just bundle up in a corner together. I see them go on the roost sometimes during the day but it is not that often and it is only him/her and one other that do it. Plus I gave him/her a bath yesterday on the advice from someone in the disease section. Today it is still there but not as wet.

My BO laid her first egg today. She was in there for almost two hours. I started to worry but didn't want to open the box and scare her. She came out and sang her little heart out. It was the tiniest egg ever. It's even smaller than my silkie's egg.
