Haven't posted much lately but today was a really sad day

. The neighbor's dogs got out and came into my yard and killed one of my favorite hens. One dog had a hold of my roo and I managed to break him loose after pulling his tail. My roo took off but is nowhere to be found. Not in the yard or the neighborhood. Don't know whether he is dead or alive but there was a little blood on the feathers the dog had in his mouth. We searched and searched but couldn't find him anywhere. This is a mystery. We are just devastated because they were such great pets. Just brought my roo into the house today and held him for awhile. He was sweet. Miss his crowing..

Oh so sorry. This just happened to me last week. Except it was my own dog that attacked my chickens. I lost 2 hens and 2 were hurt pretty bad. They are recovering pretty good but I know it is very devastating.

I hate to hear this! Did you let the dog owners know?

WH ??? Harlequin ducks are black and white.

No. Welsh Harlequin, he was trying to convince me welsh harlequin ducks are an endangered species and worth $150 a piece. He seemed disturbed that he was letting this female go for $15.
He has an ad on Craigslist for $150 for a breeding pair. He would not sell me a male.

I am so sorry! I cant imagine how awful this experience is for you. I hope you did something about those dogs! I don't believe in hurting dogs because I have my own but.....I think my foot would've ended up on the rear end of that dog!! We are experiencing a bad coyote problem here and I am pretty sure the shotgun I heard last night was someone protecting their flock-just saying.

As for my question a few days ago- I don't think they have lice or mites. I have given them DE to dust with. Also it seems they lose them close to where they sleep. I did go out and place a few on the roost-2 feet high and flat side of 2x4-and one freaked out and started jumping and squawking. She scared the rest of the flock and the ones already up there jumped down and went back into the huddle. Arrg it is tough getting them to do what I want them to do. I will start my chicks on the habit now and hopefully when they get in there with the big girls they can teach them what I want.

My neighbor has 5 dogs and the small laso apso was one of the dogs and the other was a husky. The dog that had hold on my roo is the one I pulled off and took him to the pound for quarantine since he bit my husband. The other dogs we couldn't catch. Still don't know where my roo is. It's disturbing not to know whether he's dead or alive or where he is. Sure miss he's crowing today. Sad little flock of 6.

P.S. We did talk to our neighbor and she is really upset about this. She is an older lady that lives by herself except for her mentally disabled grand daughter and she really struggles trying to keep her dogs in her yard. The small ones dig holes and then the bigger ones make the holes bigger so she can't keep up with this. The animal control officer visited her while we were over there and complained that the pit bull was chained up because it was against the law here to have dogs on chains but if he's not chained he jumps the fence and even though he's the sweetest pit bull some may not see that and become frightened just because of his breed.
