*Buff Orpington Thread!*

So how do I find some SOPs. My birds are small compared to some of the other chickens in my area. One still lays small eggs and the others lay anywhere from medium to large and once in a while maybe a jumbo. I looked at the American Poultry Assoc. but could not find anything on the sight about purchasing SOPs. Don't know if it was just my ignorance regarding computer navigating or what.

Interesting observation regarding my small flock. Since the rooster got killed when I go out they all come running to me (that's not the interesting part) but they do the breeding squat especially if I talk to them. Seems odd to me. They have always come running when I go out there and they follow me pretty much everywhere but this new behavior is something I've never seen in chickens.
Are you wanting to purchase the APA Standard of Perfection, or birds bred to the standard? You can purchase the SOP on the APA website under publications. If you are looking for birds bred to the SOP, please message me.

New to the group here.

This is Izzy, she is my favorite of all my girls. Not sure her age but she gives me large beautiful eggs every other day.

I purchased her in early November

So what is the difference between Standard of Perfection and bred to standard? Never been involved in specific breeding like this but what I want is a better, larger BO to raise more. The ones I have are small. Very, very sweet and docile but small as compared to other chickens I've had in the past.

The APA publishes a book called "the Standard of Perfection",by which all breeds are judged in APA sanctioned shows. It has pictures of all the recognized breeds of poultry, and is a necessary book to own if you are serious about breeding good chickens.Good breeders will say that their hens are bred to the SOP. All breeders who show certainly breed to the SOP, some more successfully than others.

You will find that birds bred to the SOP are MUCH larger than hatchery birds, and resemble the pictures in the SOP. Hatchery birds often do not.Go to my profile, and scroll down for photos of birds bred to the SOP.

Cutest thing I've seen when it comes to chickens.

The American Poultry Assoc. on my computer does not have a publications listing. Visited several APA sites but no listings under publications. Can't get there from here. Getting frustrating. Feel really stupid.
