*Buff Orpington Thread!*

I hope every one's chickies are staying warm. It is -2 here and supposed to be -11 tonight. This morning I felt sorry for them so I made them some oat meal with honey. My wife thinks I've gone completely crazy. But hey they give me food and lots of it, so I guess they deserve it.
I gave my hot oatmeal today too .... and blueberries : )

Mine got oatmeal too- with flax seeds, peanuts, leftover plain couscous, and some crumbled up whole grain crackers. They loved it! It's not as cold here, only just below freezing, but I can't help feeling bad for them.

It is 2 degrees here and my chickens don't even seem to care... they are restricted to just their run and coop today since I didn't want them to get wet int the snow. I do not use heat and they are well adjusted. (don't try to switch to no heat if your birds are already used to it - they won't adust)

Instead of being in the coop huddled in their cozy spots they have been hanging out in the run - nuts - my fingers felt like they were going to fall off after just 5 minutes out there. My girls even laid eggs in that cold today.

my favorite clown bailey!! She acts like a roo most of the time, skittish and wont let us within 4 feet of her

this is baileys sister, she is sweeter and very curious! I love all the pics of the orps!! I want good stock, mine are hatchery, but I love them to pieces!

Thank you for your post.

I have 2 coops. One has no water in the large metal waterer. The top is frozen so I am filling the bottom rim with water. It is on a bulb inside a concrete block but the water is starting to freeze.

I am going out and breaking the ice up and replacing the water. I have another light in on the coop which I will leave on. Will my girls need water throughout the night as the light is on or can they go to sleep?

The other coop is larger 8 feet by 10 feet by 6 feet with 13 birds in it. The water there is not frozen and it seems warmer.

Should I try to install a baby chick light in the coop with the freezing water. It is minus 2 now and will go to minus 10 tonight.

What do you think?
