Trying to pick out a new breed for my self so I've got a ton of questions.
1) do they go broody?
Yes
2) can I get a good carcass by 5/6 months of age?
Don't know
3) what's the laying ability like?
My Bella in her first year layed Daily. One of my other 2 lays every other day and then the other one lays an egg every 2 or 3 days. So, they are good layers on their first and second year.
4) cold hardy?
Mine are hardy. They have to be to survive the winter up here. They are always out free ranging when the other girls are hiding in the shed (when its raining).
5) good feed conversion ratio?
Not sure what that means haha but someone else will. Thedragonlady will be able to answer these better then me

I have 12 girls, 3 being BO's and I just give them one small pan thing (its about the size of a big cup) and that feeds them all once a day and theres still left overs!

Perhaps the difference in opinion has to do with other factors. Do Johnn's free range more than newbie's?

I agree with Johnn. All of my girls are BO's and they hardly eat any feed I give them. But also like smudge said my girls free range during the day so it depends on if they will be in a run/coop all the time or if they can free range.

Once mine come into lay, I have to sometimes restrict feed,as the girls get too fat on just Flockraiser and ranging.
