*Buff Orpington Thread!*

Well apparently yesterday was my sex link hiding an egg. But today was most definately NOT a mistake! One of my sweet little 5 month old Buff babies laid her 1st egg today!!! I thought my red hen laid a light brown egg! Not compared to the color of the Buff egg!! Wow!

Congratulations on your Buffs first egg!

I'm looking forward to starting my flock out with 4 or 5 of these. Jacksonville, Fl. just passed a urban hen keeping ordinance and I'm jumping through the hoops now to try and get my permit. Hopefully by this time next month I'll be posting pictures of my new flock. I already have everything else, chicken tractor, feeder, waterer, feed, dte, treats, scratch etc.

A permit to keep chickens? I've seen ordinances limiting how many chickens and lots of limits on how many roosters for noise reasons in many cities, but requiring a permit to keep chickens is like requiring permits for growing vegetable plants in your garden. It is frankly infuriating to hear of such draconian, intrusive, overtly self-serving, abusive government.

Oh you live in Florida. I suppose the weather makes it all worth it.

Just to come back to the subject of Buff Orps - anyone tried to cross them with anything black with good results like Australorps, Langshans or Brahmas?

The thing I would like to see is some sort of buff/black mix that looks like this but it might be a lot of work to get to it. http://www.meyerhatchery.com/produc...A5WSessionId=772e1559419e4df98e60961b3dcc167e

It is horrible you have to have a permit for chickens. Any thing to get your money. But I do hope you get it ,chickens are so much fun. Plus the eggs and meat is awesome.
