*Buff Orpington Thread!*

My buff isn't mean but isn't a very cuddly chicken by any means. She dose not lay very large eggs and they are pretty light colored. My buff has not gone broody yet. She is very pretty though. If you want a chicken that lays large pretty dark brown eggs I would go with a jersey giant (I know you people are going to be mad at me since this is the buff orpington thread lol). My jersey is sweet and easy to handle. I know the buffs have amazing color but my jersey has a nice purple green sheen to her feathers.

Pics please :)

Did you get your Buff from a hatchery, or a breeder who breeds to the SOP ? Most hatchery Buffs are not purebred Buffs. They are much smaller, and lay smaller eggs.

These eggs are all what I call large. The two lighter brown ones on the left are Buff Orpingtons'. The white ones are Brown Leghorns and the darker brown ones are Barred Rock and Rhode Island White. Except at the very beginning of their laying, my Buffs have always laid large eggs. They are wonderful hens.

Okay. I know someone on here can tell me. Do you weight an egg to determine size? What are the sizes for each? Never put a lot of thought into it. My girl's are therapy pets. The eggs are a wonderful benefit. They are the same size as the store bought large with an occasional extra large and medium.
