BELLA UPDATE: I wasn't supposed to be going up till 9 tonight as no one could take me, but I really wanted to go so on the way home from college I asked tole taxi to stop on the side of the road and I got out and walked to the hens as they weren't far from there. I went to see Bella and her wound is deeper than I originally thought. She was eating mealworms when I give them and when I picked her up she went mental and nearly escaped from my hands! I'm sorry I couldn't get a better pic but I had her in one hand and my phone in the other. Mams getting them sterri strips for tonight but I'm not sure if they will work on something so deep. BTW her wound is bigger, her feathers are just covering the other half of it

I'm so sorry....
Still hoping she pulls through!!!!
She's so expressive...

Hi all, I have buff orpingtons and the oldest girl is now 38 weeks and still no eggs. I've checked all around the garden for hidden nests but nothing. She grew up with her brother who is now twice her size but they are inseparable. I know orpingtons are late bloomers but this seems to be a very long time?

Should I just keep waiting? I have other varieties of hens around her who lay, she just seems to not be that interested, and she is definitely a girl.

Any suggestions?

Peppa is about a month from laying eggs (according to textbook so we won't hold our breath) but she is a beautiful girl!

Thanks!

Do buff orpingtons lay an egg every single day? And how big is their egg?
Depends on age and whether they are US hatchery standard or UK ones. I believe the US ones have leghorn in them so therefor lay bigger eggs and lay more then than UK ones. I have the UK ones and they lay a medium sized egg. My youngest one who is nearly 2 laid everyday but now she has a chick. My older 2 are nearly 4 and they lay 3 or 4 eggs a week. But ones broody now and the others got chicks so I'm not sure what they will be laying like after all this.

Took a video this morning for a few chicken friends to make a better rooster guess. Plus this rooster is a shy one, didn't hear him this morning. Even woke up early to try and see him cockadoodledo. Watch all 4 silkies be roosters that would be just my luck. Lol
Guess the rooster!:

Rather a fox or a dog. Think its the farmers dogs as none of the girls were taken. Just injured

How do you know it was a dog John? Did you see any tracks? What kind of dog does the farmer have? I hope Bella's going to heal up ok and it doesn't become infected. I read penicillin is good for wounds. Glad all the babies are ok. Did Bella's mom have any injuries?
