I'm new to Buff Orpingtons. The reason why I got them was because I feel in love with their looks and personality. I wanna talk to people who personally have BOs. How large are their eggs on average? What shade brown on average? And how many eggs per day do they lay? How many times per week? My BO are only about 11 weeks old so I still have a ways to go before I see eggs.

My BO's have laid medium sized, creamy brown eggs. They are not quite as large as one might expect considering the BO body mass. My smaller barred rocks lay somewhat larger eggs. How many eggs per day? Do you mean per week

. I have heard of BOs that lay one egg per day seven days a week for the first year, but my BOs laid more like 4-5 eggs per week and have kept laying for years (except for the short days during winter, or if they were broody). But the egg laying did slow down some by the third year.

I decided to let Bella have the day out today. Here and her chick were really active and wanting to move about, so because she will be stuck in all week I decided to let her. I left her alone for 5 mins, came back and she had a dust bath!! It was straight back to bed for her! Had to rinse the wound out to get the muck out then put some more spray on. Her and her baby enjoyed the day out though

That baby sure is growing fast!

Hi all, I have buff orpingtons and the oldest girl is now 38 weeks and still no eggs. I've checked all around the garden for hidden nests but nothing. She grew up with her brother who is now twice her size but they are inseparable. I know orpingtons are late bloomers but this seems to be a very long time?

Should I just keep waiting? I have other varieties of hens around her who lay, she just seems to not be that interested, and she is definitely a girl.

Any suggestions?

That's about when mine started to lay. I thought it was going to be forever, the waiting is the hardest part, lol.

Do buff orpingtons lay an egg every single day? And how big is their egg?

Mine lay almost everyday. They do take a day off here and there, I thinks its their laying schedule, a little bit later everyday, then the next day is skipped, if that makes any sense. I would say the eggs are a good medium sized. They may be a little smaller in the beginning when they first start to lay and will get larger as time goes by.

Ok, this post make me think my chicken is not a BO after all, I am a first timer to chickens so I could have easily been misguided. My BO are around 18-19 weeks old they are not as filled out as many of your pics. My girls look rather slender next to yours. So tell me do I have a BO or not.

Looks like a BO to me. What you are probably seeing is some of the posters here have hatchery stock and some English stock. The English stock are much more "rounded out and fuller", like John's Bella for example.

Thanks everyone! The vets just refused to anything. The best they would give me is to go in and pay for the consultation to get her anti biotics. She's doesn't appear to need them yet. I will be checking daily for infection and topping it up with anti septic spray. She was moved into a bigger, better ventilated shed yesterday with straw as bedding so it doesnt go in her wound. I hid meal worms under the bedding and her and she chick had a good scratch around looking for them. I am going to let her out for an hour tonight to see her friends so she's not forgotten. I will be doing it just before they go to bed so theres less flies about! Here is her and her baby

Peppa is about a month from laying eggs (according to textbook so we won't hold our breath) but she is a beautiful girl!

How old is she? I'd say just from my experience, she has to redden up in her face a lot more before she will be laying. Waiting is the hardest part )
