*Buff Orpington Thread!*

Alright - how do you get your animals to stay still long enough to take these photos? Every time I try to get photos of my animals they won't stay still long enough except for the dog who will stay on command but you can't tell chickens to stay.

You don't. You put the camera on "sports" mode and hold down the shutter and fire off as many photos as you can before the camera has to stop and write the images to memory. At that point, you cross your fingers and hope you got one good one in the batch. ;-)

SOOOOO Beautiful. I just love seeing happy, healthy hens out in nature. These are some really lucky chickens to have ended up living with you. I think I speak for the majority when I say, POST MORE PHOTOS!!!

Wow John, the photos are incredible. Thanks for sharing your flock with us. Since you are so experienced with Bella and others hatching baby chicks, I have a question for you. Hope you don't mind. My Buff, Rachael, went broody again for the 4th time in her first year. I don't have a rooster, so I got some eggs from another backyard chicken farmer. After candling on day 7, four of the eggs were apparently not fertile, so we are down to two. This is the 16th day she has been laying on them and today when I picked one egg up and put it to my ear, I heard little peeping. No sounds from the other egg. Does that mean one is very close to piping? Maybe a couple of days? And, if the chick would experience a problem hatching, would Rachael help her out? Never experienced this before and it is so amazing. Thanks for the advice.
Thank you! If you can here a peep then she should pip before 24 hours. After the it pips it should hatch with in 24 hrs. Hens don't usually help them, but sometimes are known t peck the egg to get the chick out but that can go wrong very easily!

John I hope it didn't look like I was doubting your photography or dismissing any of the compliments.
The photos are indeed impressive. The fact that they are first shots rather than "best" shots of many is nothing short of incredible!
Your a very talented photographer and I love your photos.

You should start a "John's chicken photos" thread, LOL!! It would be a hit!
Thank you! :) I do have a picture thread already, just post the buffs here aswel :)

Thank you, I have a picture thread so my whole flock is on there :)

Buffs are the greatest, We have had six for about a year that free range but today I found two piles of feathers and only have four now. It must have been a hawk as I was outside with them and did not hear or see anything. They were part of the family and will miss the girls.
