*Buff Orpington Thread!*

Our first eggs!
This is our first year with chickens and at first we thought this was from our Silkie pullet because of the size, but someone on the Silkie thread informed me that
these were too dark in color to come from the Silkie and was more likely from one of our BO girls.
They're about 22 weeks old and I think these all came from one hen who is showing the most red on the comb and the waddles.
I don't think these are wind eggs since they're all the same size, but assuming they aren't how long do they lay little eggs before they become full size?

Congrats!

This photo I took after I brought them home made me think off a box of Easter Peeps. So we named them, Penny, Pickles, Peaches and Pearl - The Peeps!

We've had a Ginger and a Honey Bear. Honey Bear was 9lbs and you felt the ground move when that bird came running. She was awesome. Best BO ever. Miss her every day. I never got why people would pay to clone a pet until I had that bird.

Thanks for comments about when my girls might begin to lay.  They were practicing their Buk Buk Buk BAGAWK!!!  Yesterday afternoon.  All three of them just standing their.  They stopped when I came out to make sure there wasn't an issue.

And this morning, they seemed extra chatty.  So we're definitely getting close.  Maybe not today but I do think in a week or two.  YEA!!!

I am in CA too and mine took a painful 6.5 MONTHS!!!! Be patient and maybe they will lay faster lol

Well, if that is true for mine, then I'm just two more weeks away. I can live w/ that. I was chatting w/ a knowledgable person about chickens yesterday who reminded me that our days are getting shorter and there's a good chance they won't begin to lay until next March when the days are longer. I nearly died when she told me that. I'd be devastated. I was really counting on them laying through their first winter. If they don't lay till next March, the'll be 11 months old. OMG.

Oh wow while that is true I am hopeful they will lay some for you before we change the clocks. If you aren't already, add calcium to their diet now like oyster shell or crushed egg shells (we do both so they have a choice).

They are on layer. The books say that you can put them on as early as 18 weeks of age. And I did put them on before they began to lay. Because my 4 year old Jersey Giant was having trouble getting enough calcium and laying soft shelled eggs. Which the babies were promptly eating. I declare, if it's not one issue, it's another.

I have noticed that I've been filling up the oyster shell bowl more frequently so they are interested in it.

I know I'm close. No one squats for me. But only one really let's me get close to her. The other two watch me from a distance but do NOT like to be picked up. Strange for BO's and I'm hoping that changes. I do love having them sit in my lap.

Too sweet! They're adorable.

I know what you mean. My Ava is like a little dog...she follows me everywhere and comes running when she sees me.
Sometimes she tries to follow me in the house at night.
...Sometimes I let her. Lol. But only for a few minutes!..or an hour
