Wow! You were lucky. Those heating lamps are so dangerous. Thanks for having me. When i posted that pic i had the little one sleeping on my chest and shoulders it was all stretched out. Then after a little while i grabbed the rest of the chicks and lst them run my living room just in time as their heat light fell into their brooder, thr clamp gave way even after checking it prior to getting them.

I did use one for my current flock when they were babies, but I had it tied off 3ways to Sunday![]()
This year I'm going to use the MHP (Mama Heating Pad Method) it looks much safer and seems to work well according to everything I've read - check out the first page then jump to the end for current conversation - there's also loads of photos https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/956958/mama-heating-pad-in-the-brooder-picture-heavy-update
We have two 3-week old Buffs. One has blue-green legs and beak. Does anyone know what this means? Thanks
Will post when I get home. We got them from a local breeder who said they were Buff Orps when they were only 3 days old.HiWelcome To BYC![]()
Can you post some photos of your new babies?
I'm not sure about the blue-green legs and beak - were they shipped from a hatchery with some Gro-Gel included in the box?
Buff Orpingtons should have white(ish) legs and beak.
Here is a quick picture. Hope it helps. We are pretty curious.HiWelcome To BYC![]()

Looks like a buff silkie or silkie mix.
