*Buff Orpington Thread!*

Bella is doing something really funny at the minute. Her mother (she hatched Bella out in 2012) is broody and when ever she is off her eggs and goes near Bella Bella puffs up and starts running round clucking like she's broody! I think she does it thinking that her mother won't attack her if she does but it back fire on her today! Her mother started chasing her to get her!

I'm curious. TSC has hatchery buff orpingtons. Some are dark, some are light buff. Does anyone know if the chick color has anything to do with determining sex.? My good sense tells me no, but yet I wonder at times.

Most TSCs get theirs from Mt. Healthy this year, same as mine. Color has nothing to do with sex, generally, in my experience. There are lighter sunny yellow Buff Orps and more goldish ones. I had two different shades of gold in my first Buff Orp pullets from Ideal.

Bella's mother has a chick and her other 2 eggs have pips. I have took Bella's eggs away from her to try discourage her from being broody.

Day 21: all three hatched but one didn't make it. It was lying in the food bowl and the broody was sitting talking to it and trying to get it back under her :(. Have moved them onto the floor now as we have had chicks fall out the nest box in the past so thought it would be best to do it now. These are the first of my own eggs to ever hatch! 100% fertile!

Bella is broody now and she is really bad! She had two eggs so I took them away and replaced them with an egg that I think will be fertile and one that I don't think is and she went back to her nest and say I front of the eggs so they were just sitting behind her! She also comes off her nest and she clucks like a normal broody but then she kind of just gets bored and starts acting normal!

Video from a day or two ago when I brought the chicks in some dirt...One of the buffs won't even move despite being walked on, due to wanting that dust bath so bad.
