*Buff Orpington Thread!*

Mille fleur is the color. Belgian D'Anver and Belgian D'Uccle are two different breeds, though distantly related. D'Uccles are feathered feet and single combs and are slightly larger. D'Anvers have rose combs and are clean legged.
Thank you!

Learn something new everyday!
And I like that, especially when it comes to chickens

I just got a buff Orpington from a friend but she is not tamed at all! Does anyone know any tips or tricks to help tame her? P.s she is about a year old hen
Chickens learn very slowly after the first couple of months. Taming is typically done by holding them a lot during the first month or two. I know it is probably not what you want to hear but once they are several months old and skittish with humans they tend to stay that way.

I have 5 BO's and they have always been together too. I have one that has decided that its a good thing to pluck feathers off the others. She is the only one that has the beautiful "bottom" left. Driving me crazy!!!!! She doesn't do it aggressively, just walks up, grabs a feather and pulls it out. And none of the other chickens do a thing about it. I bought some peck no more stuff, will see if that works. Has anyone ever used those pinless peepers? And if so was it successful?

I'm looking forward to having a peaceful flock once again. I just hope I can do it without having to "get rid of her"(
I think that might have been me that posted that reply to you when you were wondering about her gender. I'm so glad that she is in fact a girl and she is turning out to be a very pretty young lady ) And I love the coloring of the bird coming through the door in the second pic too!

Adorable!

Thanks Johnn! And as always beautiful pic!
Thank you both! :)

Hello Buff buffs!!
I'm new to this chicken ownership thing and loving it! But, got a question for all of you. I think one of my BOs is possibly an upcoming roo...which is a bummer because I don't want to give any up! I can't have roos, only hens, and in the 2 weeks that I have had them (I know, I know, it is early but check out the picks) I have really bonded with them! They are socializing great, along with 3 Barred Rocks. What I see is a distinct early comb coming out on one, who btw, is feathering slower than all 5, and not present on the other one. Anyone see a variation in comb development in hens?? Please tell me what you think!

This on is Orphie, who I really think is a hen:

Here she is on her back for the leg test thing that lots of people chat about:

Now, here is the one I call Bella, but maybe "she" is a Beau, or Bill, or Bob:

Annnndd on her/his back;

I promise, I am holding them very gently!! Would love expert thoughts! I so don't want to give "Bella" away!! Thanks, all!

I have 4 buff's roughly 12 weeks old. I've noticed their faces starting to get more and more red in color as the days go on. Should I be concerned about something? They are all acting fine, eating, drinking, playing....just want to make sure.
