*Buff Orpington Thread!*

So i have a question. My buff sometimes pants when she is falling asleep. Is that normal?

It's 92 degrees in the coop, my buffs are panting, is this ok??? And if not what do I do about it?

not sure if i posted this here but i had another girl die, by dustbathing none the less, it was crazy, her name was Rosa, and i miss her in my flock, they are diminishing and my plans are to get more hens next year around this time unless life changes that

otherwise all the others are fine and so far this summer i've had to save them from 3 snakes. i'm wary everytime i go in to the run, apparently the snakes here are skinny and fit through the chicken wire.

I'm sorry to hear about Rosa passing. I'm curious to know how the dustbath killed her. I have a Buff Orpington, Goldie Hahn, who started panting and has been roosting outside a lot. She's not her friendly self, not eating as much and doesn't even come around for snacks. I'm new to chickens and not sure what's going on. Any ideas?

Dorothy, at 5 weeks. She's one out of the two Buff Orps we have. She's super sweet!

It must be the heat. You need to put her in a cool space with plenty of water, immediately. Chickens do well in cold weather, but not so much hot weather. Chickens may begin to get heat exhaustion when out in weather above 86 degrees Fahrenheit, it may cause a stroke if you don't act fast.

thanks she dug up a root from a bush and got strangled it was so weird and shocking, still sad i miss her.
buffs are really good in the cold bc of all their feathers which makes heat hard for them, they need really good shade, ice water, etc to help survive. sometimes if she's not feeling well, taking a break from laying or regrowing some feathers as an example they can act that way as well. most likely shes just too hot.

Yes. I'm so sorry for your loss, as well. It really stinks when a chicken dies, I know the feeling.

Mine do this too, I'm a new mom though so I don't know if it's normal...so you watch them sleep?? Me too

I do watch the one buff sleep because she is the only one that does it
