Question: Do Buff Orpingtons tend to have a lighter comb color? My hen's is never as deep red as my Barred Rocks or my Amberlink. Thoughts?
Comb color is dictated by health and whether they are laying and sexually receptive. When comb color is faded it indicates they are out of lay or aren't feeling well. Combs are a visual clue for other chickens.

I picked up 4 buffs at an auction last summer, 2 of the four are older hens and one had an extremely pale comb (sooo, her name is "Pale Face") we added some mineral water and some diatomasceous earth to her diet and now she's as red as the others

Acquired this rooster and was told it is a Golden Buff (Comet cross) and I have no experience with chickens outside of Game/Asil chickens. My exceptional Google skills said this has to be a BO, can you guys confirm this?

My hens do get diatomaceaous earth in their diet. I follow a recipe called "breakfast of champions" that I found in the book Fresh Eggs Daily. Her comb is read, just not as red as the other three. I haven't tried mineral water, but I do put apple cider vinegar in their drinking water fairly regularly. I used to put garlic cloves in the water, but garlic is in the recipe I use.

He looks more Orpington to me, white beak and legs.

Golden Buff males (Golden Comet, Red Sex-Link, Red Star, etc.) if I remember correctly have mainly white feathers with a buff/golden cape, wing and tail, but that can vary since they are hybrids - a lot goes into the hybrids so you can get some interesting looking roosters.
