Buff Orpington x Barred Rock, is that a sexlink?

Getting around 20 pullets, and wanting to have a good percentage of fertile eggs so that if a hen or two go to setting it can be useful. Like somebody else commented, there are lots of things that can happen.
Last year, we had 3 lavender Orpington roosters, with around 22 hens.
Do you start fresh every year?

20 pullets. Ok. 👍

Ideally no, I try to get 2-3 years out of a group. This is coming up on their second year and going to have the young ones coming on to replace them this fall.
After the first year of lay, I like to have a few new ones ready to start laying as the older birds molt. Last summer I let 2 broody hens set so now my numbers are up to 30 since they were combined. That is pushing it with space per bird
My goal is to get breeds and or a cross that I like and let them keep going and replace older birds along.
