Today I was out with my hens and noticed our 3 year old buff Orpington hens legs and feet were very red. It’s only snowed once here so far this winter and melted mostly later that day. There’s no snow currently. Oh and there’s bubbly scale on the back of her leg if you look at the last photo I think there’s technically two of them but the pic only shows one. But her legs aren’t usually like this. Anyone know what it might be??

How old are they?
Can you get some photos of the front and bottoms of the legs and feet?

I would inspect the legs/feet very well and put some oil on the legs. Some of the red flushing is likely hormones if they are laying, but I see some raised scales as well that would indicate possibly Scaly Leg Mites. Oil will smother the SLM and sooth the legs.

Just inspected her and got more photos. She’s 3 years old has been laying for awhile now. Will the oil still be okay to put on her even though it’s super cold out? I just
Worry about her getting a cold or frostbite. Here’s those photos you asked for :)

Thank you for the photos!
I think that is probably just dirt, but check that one spot I have an arrow pointed to.
I would probably use something like Vaseline on the legs, just make sure they are dry before you put it on. Work a small amount into the scales.
