Buff silkie hatch **New pics 8/3

My first buff silkie hatch is out! There are 7 total and they range from really light (almost white) to fairly dark. I can't wait to see how they feather out. All seven are really mellow and laid back. They are the quietest babies I have ever had in the house.

Yeah, they seem to paste up a lot faster than the others. I wiped down tushies last night and started trimming tushie feathers to help them out. So far so good.

aww i have 1 silkie that i love so cute but what the heck is a pasty buttt
 
Pasty butt happens when feces clump up around their vent and clog it up so they can no longer eliminate. If they get clogged up they can die. It happens most often in chicks in the brooder as opposed to those with hens. To solve the problem you keep an eye on their heinies and keep them cleaned up with warm water. With the silkie you can help by trimming off the fuzz around their vents. I have also heard of "basting" their tushies with olive oil.
