Buff Silkie Thread!

Breeding buffs can be very very hard. It is one of those things that you can breed the best to the best and still get smutty offspring.

Your best bet to get clearer chicks/offspring is to breed Clear to Clear and just see what happens. Hopefully someone else with better Buff Breeding experience will come along and pipe in.

Good luck!

Personally I wouldn't put either one of them in a breeding pen. Color is the last of your worries there. Conformation/body type is very poor. They are too long and narrow through the bodies. Too much daylight through the legs. Narrow V shaped cushions and tons of hard feathering. Long, narrow, crow shaped heads. I see yellow eyes on the male. Red skin, red combs. Very sparse beards and crests. I see completely white feathers in the cock's primaries. On the plus side, they do carry their wings correctly and have nice foot feathering.

We have a rooster who has the lighter comb and eyes like your boy and hes rangy leggy type bird which personally is our preference in a breeding bird as he can breed well naturally......his color is a bit more even but he has produced multiple show winning offspring and the lady who bred him was going to cull him so we took him as liked the feathering density and he had no glaring DQs...his pullets are clear or very small amounts of peppering in tail and wings.....buffs are a tough color as the shades move up and down the scale so easily so if you like the rooster i say give him a try..do a few eggs and breed him to clear girls and if you can get a darker clear girl you can get the darker eyes and comb.....the cockerels from our roo range from very light to dark so its all in the genes...good luck and enjoy your buff silkies...Chris

This is Gracie & Max. Gracie was hatched from Sundown's eggs and Max was purchased from Birds N Eggs. They will be my breeding pair to start up my buffs again (since I sold all my others). I love them both.

Here's my little buff Silkie...She's from Vanessabuffnsilkies....Vanessa sold her to me because she's got some (I would call them blue undertones) in her feathers.....I think she's beautiful!
