I put our zapper in the chicken yard and not only is the area cleaner, but it creates a nice glow at night for them. They sleep much better because it looks like a black light and they don't make nearly as much noise as they used to. There aren't any bugs under the zapper....they must get eaten really quickly in the morning.
I bought two bug zappers in the last few weeks. The first one got clogged up with bugs in ONE night and had to be blown out with an air compressor in order to work again. It was a Stinger. Don't buy a Stinger!
Then, a few days ago I replaced it with a Flowtron. This one zaps tons of bugs and does NOT clog up. This was a much better choice. I hung a lightweight plastic tray under it to catch all the bugs so I could see my chickens enjoying the feast.
I only wish I would have saved the box from the first one so I could have gotten my money back. Anyone want to buy a slightly used Stinger bug zapper?
Man... I've gotta get some permanent electricity back to my barn. I'm sick of this extension cord! I think this will be my weekend project so that I can move my zapper out there.
I have had a bugzapper in my coop for over a year now, mainly to keep the mosquitoes away, and it works great...if the hens get a little treat from it, even better.
My bug zapper hangs in my coop. I told my 14 year old to put a hook up on the coop. I went in the house, came back a few minutes later and there was an extention cord going in the coop. I had intended for it to hang on the outside! Oh well. It is hanging and zapping bugs!
Has anyone tried a solar bug zapper? What kind of results have you had - good/bad/in between. Thought about hanging one in the coop ... just not sure what kind of charge we'd get unless it had a separate charger cell.
I am thinking about going this route, but had a question... Wouldn't it be better to hang it up well-above the hen play area withOUT a bowl? That way the bugs would get zapped and fall to the ground where the hens (I presume) would get them in the morning. Is there a problem with that idea, if there is I'd love for someone to point it out since I am considering doing just what I described).
