Bugs in my feed

Uh oh, there are maybe a dozen of these I found at the top side of my feed storage pail. It has a lid, but not locked down tight (I’m shopping for a better option that fits 25-50#). Tiny, maybe 1 cm long. I removed them and I’m not seeing any below the surface—I shifted through to check. Was tempted to feed to the chicks but don’t really want them loose in the brooder.

Darn, I thought they looked familiar. Weevils. We have a vine weevil that attack my peonies and lilacs. They weren’t in there for the first 2 weeks I had the bag, so I don’t think they came in the feed but found their way in. Chick starter, only about 1 third used so far.

Did you end up feeding them to your chickens?

Hmm, could be, thanks! I didn’t want to risk it so I squished them. But I may let them have them if I get more down the road. Didn’t see anymore today, thank goodness!
