So I have a bantam d’uccle and a bantam sizzle who get picked on from time to time. I brought them in the house this morning and they were preening on the back of our old couch. I noticed that they had lots of flaky skin coming off and a few feathers as well.

Is this just because it’s getting cold? Or is it a sign of bugs/lice/mites. I tried looking at their skin and I don’t see anything but I also have no idea what I’m looking for. They are only 4 months old.

Pic of couch after I brought them back outside.

Looks like feather sheath dust. If there are new feathers coming in they pick the sheath off to let the new feathers open, makes a lot of dust like this. Look for pin feathers, or partially sheathed feathers.
