Building a farm .. Updated 8/24 Complete/ *PICS*

You hang in there !!! I built my house and did the construction loan. One bit of advice ...watch the money. If they give you draws when a job is completed it can make it difficult moving forward. Have a schedule that is realistic and it will cut down on the stress. Remember you guys are a team so talk things out and AGREE before moving forward. Keep some"extra"money put aside in case there is a problem. Enjoy this as this is something you will remember forever so make it a great memory. God Bless

As we were leaving, I spotted Mr. Copperhead in my headlights and we stopped for a photo op ... and then helped him across the road.

That is SO something DH and I would have done! OK...something I would have done! LMAO!! I am loving your thread...please keep the updates coming as I am living vicariously through you right now and taking notes! You are doing what I hope to do one day.

I agree -- enjoy the process each day as you go through it, rather than postponing your enjoyment until things are "done." Because, things are never "done" , even when the house is built, etc etc, there will still be that pressure to go go go and get the next project finished. YOu can spend you whole life accomplishing the projects and end up missing out on your own life!! Just make sure to take time to laugh, and enjoy every day, the work you have done and each other.

This is what I constantly tell DH .. My favorite saying to him is:

You are a human BEING .. not a human DOING. Can you quit DOING for a bit and just BE with me??
LOL

Thanks for the encouragement, gang! I love that there are BYC friends that have done this already and give sage advice .. but I also love those of you that are THINKING about it and watching our every steps ..

Ya'll spur me on with your encouragement, and keep me on my toes about picture updates ..

Ugh .. any other time, I love this time of year .. the fronts move in .. spectacular thunderstorms .. cooler weather .. mud .. fog .. everything screaming "Fall is here .. winter on the way" ...

But "RAIN" has become a "four letter word" in our house .. Until the slab and piers are poured, not a whole lot else can be accomplished. Everything is WET and MUDDY ...

So, THANKFULLY, there was a bit of a break in the weather this week and they managed to get the piers poured. What is visible in the pictures are the forms that are above the ground. What you do not see are the holes they drilled way down into the ground, and filled up with concrete ..

More in the next post...........

The other exciting thing that happened this week was ... TA DA ... we got electricity out there .. YAY!!

Of course, because we are somewhat out in the boonies, we had to pay for the transformer and everything .. $$$$ .. but it's done. The transformer, and a temporary construction pole, to suffice until the house is up and they can run it to the house.

Who would have thought you could be so excited about a transformer..

I wanted to include these last three pics .. 1st one is looking up our driveway .. which has now been adequately torn up by big trucks etc .. We are ordering gravel this week.

The next two pics are taken standing in the road directly in front of the driveway, looking first one way the the other down the road .. We love the solitude.

Stay tuned for next post ... and more about small town living ..

On our way home, we stopped to have lunch at a local diner .. and I wanted to take a couple pics to share.

They are pretty self explanatory .. I'll only add that this is a historic little town, and both these things are located at what is now the community center, in the middle of town.

I actually took that picture driving down the road, doin' about 50 mph .. I stuck the camera OUT THE WINDOW and snapped about 5 of them .. I thought it was beautiful!!

Lesson: Always always ALWAYS have the camera charged and ready!!

Disclaimer: Kids .. don't try that at home.
