Building an "Old Style" henhouse.....move in day!....... (pics)

I did the design on a parade house about 5 years ago and had it done in red siding poor builder about had a heart attack when I said it is going to be red

I think red siding would look great on the right house... It would depend on the design and style, though.

I really like the newer homes with the dark teal/evergreen colored siding. I like the new trend for vertical siding in certain places, too.

I love your coop, Steve. It's too pretty to hide behind your garage.

His was the typical style farmhouse, with black roof, lots of white trim....kinda like my henhouse.

It sure wouldn't look good on my house.

Since I am hatching chicks and nothing much going on, I decided to get a bit more done on the henhouse.

First thing I needed was a door, since I didn't want to buy a new one, I went dumpster diving and came up with a solid blank that I could make work. I first got some 1 x 4 pine and made the hinge side jamb. Screwed the door to the jamb, installed that all in the opening. Not bad for a freebie door, even had a doorknob......and a big dent. I also cut out the chicken door.

....then I started putting on the vinyl siding, as you can see I have inspectors. I guess the door size passed, this will get wrapped in white aluminum.

I needed to come in and warm up a bit, so this is where I am at this point....not much more to go. Might get the rest of this side done tomorrow, and go over to Lowes for the linoleum.

Yes it does. After the linoleum is down, I could add roosts and nest boxes and get the hens moved in. I can always finish the top window section later on.

Then I can get the little coop out of the way.....it sure does distract from the view.
