Building my first coop! - progress thread

I have some ugly old cabinet door knobs sitting around and gold paint from something, so I decided to give the pop door a fancy gold knob! :D With a coat or two of polyurethane it should be protected enough. The pop door will be under the permanent run roof so it won’t get rained on.

Am surprised you didn't just trim out that opening with wood like the others.
You’re just not reading carefully ;)

Covered all the doorway edges with extra wide flashing to protect them. The OSB edges were getting ripped up already. The trim will hide the nails.

@aart Here’s the door frame all trimmed out! :D

You can’t really tell there’s flashing there. Looks continuous and nice. I’m very happy with how it turned out! I’ll give it some caulk where the trim meets the walls, too, and hopefully those OSB edges will be happy.

I might also even out the screw holes with wood putty... They're gonna annoy me, especially because I didn't bother to make them even and straight

Got hardware cloth on the windows! It was actually very easy to bend, just over the edge of the work table with gloved hands, no clamping or hammering. I was able to follow my original plan of bending it inside the trim frame and putting wood strips on top. Worked out really well, and it was easier than I expected. I tacked down the strips with the nail gun first, so they stay in place, then gave them an abundance of exterior screws. Feels very sturdy. Nothing’s getting in through those windows!

Here’s a pre-paint picture that shows the wood strips better:

Looks good , nice clean work . Yea , nothing's getting in through those windows .

Is that 1/2" HC?
Geeze! You are cranking it out today, eh?
Nah, it's 1". For windows, I think 1/2" is overkill. I don't see what could sneak through even 1", anything smaller would be, I guess, mice? I don't think mice can climb up smooth walls all the way to the window anyway. Or snakes up the walls... I've never seen any snakes in our yard either way.

Yeah, I'm working from home today and my job is such that I sometimes have gaps where I'm waiting for something to render, so in the meantime I can pop outside to drill a few boards or put a coat of paint on... Lucky me.

Rodents, weasels, and snakes...your walls are pretty smooth...but at least you have the regular window screen there.

You work with graphics?
