Building my own coop and looking for advice

Welcome to byc! also you are probably aware, but 10 sf is actually 5 feet, so not as big as it sounds;)

10sf is 5 feet by two feet. My run is 16x8, which is 128 sf. I just made a pen in one corner for a rooster, and that is 3x5 or 15 sf, which reduces my run to 113sf, barely ok for my 11 birds.

Just remember with space recommendations that that's the minimum. Chickens will always do better with more space. I do not free range for the most part, so I was more generous with run space (440 sq ft, currently 7 birds). And if you get snow in winter, for example, you should consider adding more room in the coop, as the chickens may not want to go out in snow.

Welcome to BYC!
