building paradise for the birds

hope everyones day was good....update...transfering some of the chickens to the big coop tomorrow...also think the polish rooster got into it with another small rooster that was in his grow out pen cause his eye is closed..just one of them...so going to check him out in the morning...also going to be downsizing roosters...freezer camp or bbq...hmmmm...ordering a commercial chicken plucker as well...cause we have a lot of chickens that will make the spin cycle within the month...also moved the quail over...total of 43...soon will be downsizing the males of the quails as well...maybe in two weeks...finally things are rolling...another batch of pheasants are due to hatch very soon...so the quail brooder will be cleaned and ready for the transfer...building more brooders in the garage tomorrow and getting a rototiller as well for the garden...well here are some pics
quails moved sorry blurry

wow leftover pheasant eggs that were not fertile...and those are all the ones we have either...hope you enjoy them gail

red golden pheasants

you can see the difference in cinnamon golden compared to the red golden pheasant

more red goldens...they can fly way past two feet at only a week old....opened the top and one said im outa here...the dog was right there and he almost had a meal

so i got these jumbo browns from a lady...and had 43 out of a 110 be good and hatch...very poor hatch rate...but i know she sold me old eggs...there was 30 alone that didnt make lockdown or develop....anyways question being...why are these different...like the lighter colored one...are these a different type of quail...cause on the first batch i hatched none of them came out like the lighter one.....hmmmm....any ideas from the quail peeps

jumbo brown

mystery bird...there are six of them in the bunch

ah....gardening time figured i would share

i landscaped for over 10 years so i have a green thumb...

morels are soaking....when done soaking make sure to dump the water in an area where you want them to grow...put a raised bed in...and ingredients are peat moss, and old straw with chicken droppings in it...makes a perfect grow spot for them...and as you know i have plenty of the chicken stuff....lol...got the bag of peat moss and now to finish the raised bed...it will take a couple of years....so make sure to dump on the spot year after year...

cant forget the taters....lol going to do a raised bed with these as well...didnt do to good in the garden last year...blaming it on the wet area....so moving them up by the house this year to see if that makes a difference....also using a method of 75 percent saw dust or shavings...using oak....and 25 percent sand...for the medium

ok here is the line up...lol...from right to left...3 quail egg, pheasant, chicken, peacock...wow such a huge difference

well hope everyone is enjoying the pics...and the birds are doing great....the show quality barred rocks to so long to feather in its crazy...they still have the down...on them...and i believe they are a month now.....hope soon they will go outside...tired on them taking up my room that i could be using for babies...well off i go..until then..."THE STRUGGLE IS REAL" .....
THE LIFE OF THE BIRDMAN AND THE FARM..STAY TUNED FOR ANOTHER DAY ...SEE YA GUYS SOON....GOD BLESS

QUOTE FROM

"
The "False Morel" has several species which carry scientific names such as Gyromitra esculenta, Verpa, Hellvella, and Disciotis. The Verpa and gyromitrin species are the most often mis-identified variety. The gyroomitrin is oten referred to as the "red mushroom", the "beefsteak mushroom" or the "lorchel". There are several true species of the false morel, and while some will say they can prepare and eat the false morel with no problem, others have a drastically opposite reaction to them. Hence, The Great Morel suggests that you do not attempt to digest this particular mushroom.
Research shows this species of the morel family is said to contain a toxic chemical called Gyromitrin, a toxic and possible carcinogenic chemical. There are white papers out on the internet that suggest this chemical can be removed from the morel by repeatedly boiling small cut up pieces in water. There are also shoomers who will tell you they have no ill side-effects from ingesting properly prepared false morels, yet evidence will point out that even ingesting small amounts of un-properly treated false morels can have serious side-effects. Even the preparation of the false morel in itself can be dangerous and may cause adverse reactions, thus avoid inhaling fumes and steam. Research also points out there are various species of false morels that grow around the world, and while some may not be as toxic as others, it is wise to understand this and to do your own research wisely."

it also takes up to seven years to develop fruit of the morel...wow...you can buy morel kits for 35 bucks online...cool....and they are guaranteed to grow

We have good potato crops here. It's super wet in the garden, so we do the stack tire method. You have to 1st make sure the ground is worked at least 12" deep. Then we put the potatoes in a tire, wait for them to grow a few inches tall, put another tire on & cover the plants almost all the way with gardening soil or compost. We keep doing that until fall. If it blooms, then it's ready. By continuing to cover it, it allows more time to grow before flowering. It usually gets to be 3 or 4 tires tall. We put ours on the end of our garden so we can just implement the soil into the garden in the fall.

I have heard that is a great way to put those old tires to use and create a warmth for the potatoes...How does the watering go?

I don't have to fuss too much with watering. I check them at least every other day, but here in Ohio, we get plenty of rain except July & August. I also throw chicken & rabbit manure in there around the edges of the tire so it doesn't burn the plant. Potatoes love compost. Just have to make sure it's composted enough to not attract bugs.
