The result of a long day of driving out in about 400 miles today. Still not home another two hours left. But this car was full to the top. I wish I could have taken a picture. Tuesday some birds should be going to a person whom I trust getting some yellows, splash, and cinnamons. We are running at 50 percent less birds now.

HOW TO MAKE A 4x4 COOP!

492D9E59-AE5F-485E-9312-A281C5F33D74.jpeg

#1 is 2 2x4s @ 3’9”
#2 is 2 2x4s @ 48”
#3 is 1 2x4 @ 48”
#4 is 2 2x4s @ 6.5”
#5 is 2 2x4s @ 10”
I used a 3.5” deck screw and pre drilled holes.

823FAEBC-6E41-4D69-A56E-D21B7A5534F7.jpeg

U can see I screwed the 48” perch onto the 6.5” and then screwed 2” deck screws horizontally from the 10” board and also into the outside frame.

Next step I eyeballed n marked underneath it and cut it out n screwed them together with 3.5” deck screws also pre drilled.

That’s how two look when ur done

724C91B9-0878-45F9-9E41-B7286DFD8214.jpeg

U can see the 1” white screws that I used it has like a rubber washer behind it. Works great n easy to use. When placing the roost I mark out 24” and then place the perch on one side the other is where the pvc will go to fit just right.
E8500E20-5CE5-43E7-A946-986B36BE526C.jpeg

Next layout the metal and place the 1/2” pvc pipe onto the middle and fasten with zip ties. I start on the 8th one and skip 3. Then flip it over n place it like about. Also mark on the outsides of the boards 1.5” as this is where u will screw 1” every other one all the way down and do for the other side as well

CDD05E46-5AF9-4A16-A7C9-27EC2AF43DAD.jpeg

Next u cut out 24 squares which is 48” and place it next to the other piece. I then take rabbit clips and secure them on the bottom 10 horizontal pieces like picture above.

FDFD6834-DC2F-4FA6-B751-94533C40FF59.jpeg

Then I do the same on the other side and the middle two on the top like in above pic.

DB7296A9-9702-410C-AAA6-6753749645BE.jpeg

As u can see I cut them and bent them to secure them. This is an ok method hard at first but easier as u do more. Also not always perfectly shaped. So I will be posting another way to do the front and backs later

29C1276C-48CB-46E3-997A-06E8E41B8F31.jpeg

Then u cut a 49” wide by 10’ long piece and staple it on. Works out great.
Hope this was a good learning experience I had fun for sure and I will post a different way for the front and backs. Can’t always get it perfect on the first try u know.
See you guys soon

Edited to add that I am working on a door system and also placement of nesting boxes. And possibly a different design for a 4x4 as I might need a more heavy duty one for the winters we get up here

Sorry byc I couldn’t get caught up Mother Nature has made it tough on me n the farm. A lot of work to be done before more building. 12” plus of this lovely stuff and best part snowblower broken so no way to remove over 300’ of driveway of snow.

A blast from the past one year ago Mom and I went to Vegas and then to Utah to visit bill Roberts and his farm. He’s 83 this year 2018 and still a chicken man. He is an inspiration on how people should be in life... dedicated about something. Great experience and a good man. This guy new every detail about his birds even to the finest detail as what birds went to what guy in what state or country. With records to prove it. If ur gunna do this casually cool but if ur going to breed then u should do it like this guy.

So totally forgot to post this after the big snow storm but the new 4x4 design as u can see is a no go for my area. So these will be for temp pens and maybe the quarantine pens. Onto a new design. Already have it planned out we’ll see how it turns out
