building paradise for the birds

Pics
well got the two new pheasants that we got a couple months back wormed for the second session and placed into their new breeding pens...Everything is going fine...I have been just slacking...I started on another coolerbator...right now everything is cut and working on the gluing so it can dry...the goal is to have it done before Monday...because Tuesday is our day we can collect fertile eggs again and begin incubation...so well say by valentines day we should have about 70 eggs in the bators...with two of them rocking and rolling...lol...well here are some pics of the baby chicks we hatched earlier....we will be worming the new peafowl this weekend and the other set of new peafowl is getting their second batch of worming....so everything is coming along...
just to clarify to people I don't think this male bird is a great specimen for the silver golden pheasant however I did get him because I like the way he looks...

you can tell who quazi is because he is half the size of everyone....but he pushes everyone around

but they are getting big for sure....well the straw and perch is up in the new peafowl coop so will get some pics tomorrow and place on here...well everyone enjoy your night

I would love to build more for my flock, I just don't have the funds.

I love what your doing for your birds though! :)

Are the peasants you raise expensive?

not expensive very affordable...and you can build a way cheaper coop then what I am building....you can find materials for free like pallets and such and build a cheap coop and they don't need that much space...they are very well priced here in Michigan...I will be selling mine for 15-30 each depending on how big and how much feed are into them...so if you need any just find me on here....I already have sold quite a few...I will be expanding the peach and silver goldens this year....I go big and that has be a decision that I have made but goal is close to twenty pair of the silvers and peach goldens....I only want to breed and have the best looking birds so....when there is a bird that don't meet standards it will more then likely go in the peafowl coop (males) still not sure what ill do with the females tho...im super excited for this coming breeding season as it is right around the corner...and im so feeling the time crunch....I will also have ayam cemani this year...no questions asked for sure...more then likely two lines of them but well see....one of the breeders im going to buy from just lost 30 of his birds....sorry for your loss my southern friend...hope everything is going better now if your watching the forum....still plan on coming down there...

they can be housed near them, but better off to not be....I have mine that free range and there is thick plastic around the bottom of the coops so they really cant have contact with the other birds...as for cemani...they really have dropped in price since a couple of years ago...when they first came out I believe they were 3000 plus for a pair....now they are down to 200 for day old chicks...also chickens can breed with pheasants...I would paste a pic of a mixed bird but there not mine so I better not...you can google and see the mix...its quite interesting how they look....

byc just opened there new expansion in the learning center...they have info on every type separate geese, ducks, turkeys, pheasants, peafowl....etc... here's a link to my article
https://www.backyardchickens.com/a/other-backyard-poultry-ducks-quail-turkeys-geese-etc
they did a wonderful job...its very well organized and easy to follow on any type....a lot of helpful info

well here are some more pics...got the cutting done and gluing so waiting for that to dry and then the second coat goes on...
this birds legs are so green compared to the rest

darker green legs

same bird...thinking about calling him zoro....hahaha

see the silver/blackish bird on the right its legs are so dark almost black

starting to feather out nicely

heres the runt.....QUAZIMOTO....crooked beak and one eye...but faster then all the birds..

oh boy its coolerbator time...gotta pick up the slack..iv ben in resting mode

Wow so cool! If I where to raise pheasants, the run would be in seeing distance if the chickens, but not right up close. Love those chicks! Do you cull the extra roosters?

that would be perfect...the only thing you would worry about would be anything carrying on your shoes...most people do raise multiple kinds of birds...biggest thing is to take good biosecurity for your flock...most people don't have multiple shoes that they switch out of to go in each kind of pen...so as long as you keep them up to date with worming and get a good wormer...I would say nothing other then safeguard or valbazen then your birds will do fine...periodically do poo checks to make sure everything visual is fine...if you question something then send in to a vet for a fecal test...heres acouple of websites for fecals you can do this yourself if you have the right tools....

hope this helps...and if you need any birds let me know ill give you a great deal.....even if you do eggs I can give you eggs....I ll have so many prolly extras...so just let me know....as for roosters if they are better looking then the existing rooster then that bird will take its place the other one makes freezer camp...meat is alittle more tough then hens but goes great in a slow cook of somesort....and when we have incubated our rooster rate on the last one was 2 out of 11 so we don't seem to get to many...I will be separating the roosters this year so they can give the hens a break too.....

One of the Legends about the Iowa Blue chickens is that they got started between a cross of a chicken and a pheasant. I believe they've ruled it out genetically, but that was the story with them for a while.

oh wow...that's interesting...I mean the bird looks cool but have no idea if a chickant would be fertile...but when I kept the ringneck and chickens in the quarantine pen the chickens did mate with the pheasants...and then they got separated...so I never tried to hatch any....boy would that just be a cool things to see tho....they prolly could fly a lot better then a normal chicken
