Building their pen

Just hatched my first quail. I have 16! I’m going th be building their outdoor pen (they won’t be out there for a few weeks). I know they need and like bushes and plants. I live in northern KY. What would be some good and OK plants to put in there pen? Anything else I should do/add. First time quail owner but I’ve been keeping chickens for 3 years now. Thanks!

Quail are happy with most kinds of plants. I've heard of only few that are to be avoided such as tomato plants and cedar. Be aware that they are likely to destroy anything you give them, so easy to replace is good.

My Coturnix absolutely love their muhly grass. It gets large enough to shelter a handful of birds at maturity and the leaves and seed-heads have no "bias" so they're less likely to get stuck in any quail crops. It's the only grass I've tried with them that they let alone, too.
