Built A new coop out of my old fence

When we first got chickens, the younger ones easily flew to the top of a 7+ foot fence. Then I heard a lot of racket and found a black orpington had cornered my neighbor's cat on her carport and was terrorizing the poor thing. Never saw a cat with eyes so big. We clipped wings once, and it has resolved the problem. We have one older girl who will occasionally go for a walk in the front yard and come back on her own. She had a friend that would go with her that passed of old age earlier this year. It was funny, they would wait until the two of them were alone, so the younger ones couldn't figure out how they were doing it.

Jail-break! It's funny, there's usually a "troublemaker". Only one of mine was in the habit of escaping. When I moved the second house further back, she stopped. I'm sure she could have flapped across, but she must have thought it was too far.

My older girls stayed in myown front yard and because we are in the city the dogs have to be on leashes. They will stand their ground against cats and the cats seem afraid. They would come back in, once they were ready. So It didn't bother me, they were safe and stayed home, so. Also they are locked up pretty tight at night and put themselves to bed before dusk.

Those were my two oldest girls, excpt they stayed in the front yard. cute ad, like buff orpington Geico ad.

I don't know, but I do know that they will jump onto something inside in order to be able to jump over a fence..... If you've got your chicken house within jumping distance of the fence and they can jump up there, they'll do it. I moved my big girls into a covered run, I found the "roof-less" yard too stressful trying to keep them in there (and also the crows and pigeons thought that they were entitled to come for

Thanx for the feedback......i must say that i agree with you.

Looks great. Does anyone know what height I should make a fence for me to keep chickens safely as I have quite a few dogs that are just waiting for one of them to escape . Currently I have about 20 chickens in 2 coops. Bit tight in the one coop . Both coops have runs . But I feel it's to small and would like to give them more space.
You can make it 2ft high as long as you put A top on it you know what I mean as long as there is something blocking them from jumping out it can be short
