built huge run to keep neighbors dog from killing our girls but now have another predator....oyyyy

I ordered the 2" square. Netting from Amazon for my run it works great. I got the 25x50 size as my run isn't as large as yours but is also odd shaped. I didn't cut it to size I just draped it over and gathered it up around the edges and tied it off to the top of the fence all around the edge with plastic cable ties. I stretched a nylon rope tightly across the run in the wider spaces to hold up the netting. Everyone says snow will ruin this netting but I live in northern Wisconsin and we have had over 60 inches of snow so far this year, the snow doesn't stick to this netting at all. I don't have to shake it off or anything. I could see snow being troublesome with a smaller mesh but the 2" works great for me

I'm thinking the same thing...securing it with cable ties. But if the snow were to bring it down couldn't it just be put back up or is it too cumbersome. How tall is your run? Would love to see some pictures of how you applied the net.

When I first got my flock I talked to all my neighbors about it so they understood what I was doing. They both have hunting dogs and a chicken is just a funny looking pheasant to them. We have only had 3 killed by the neighbor dogs and that is because the girls decided to go exploring into the dogs domain. I choose to let them free range and they were in the dogs yard. I have no problems with that. However, my neighbors understand that it is their responsibility to keep their dogs out of my yard and away from my girls. I have only had one neighbor dog in my yard after my girls. I caught the dog and took him back to his owner and we had a good chat. My neighbors know I have a right to protect my livestock from harm and will do so without hesitation. With that understanding, we all get along great and I supply everyone with eggs. Sorry to hear about your challenges and I hope you get them resolved quickly.

I am sorry for your losses. I too have dealt with dog attack and missed. the hawks and I give the stink eye now. please tell me more of the repellant tape? how does it work? we are getting ready to build a permanent run in a wooded lot and my list of to do's keeps building before I can start. sigh. need to light a fire and run a chainsaw to remove broken off and killed trees before it can be started.
