Oop indeed
Gosh, what happened to my writing skills. This little bit feels so terribly written, at least to me
"Hey kid."
"Hey. Grub." A gruff voice from behind rumbled, rising a notch in volume as it startled the young dragon awake.
Heavy, rough claws shook the stirring form. "Up. What in the name of army ants are you doing here?" The large dragon growled, more a statement than a question.
The Leafwing dragonet shot up with a terrified squeak, scuttling back from the older dragon. He almost turned and started running again, but something in his face made the "grub" stop to take a second look.
Cyprus studied the other dragon. He was old, that was obvious.
Not only was he pretty weathered-looking, he was also huge. One of the biggest dragons he'd ever seen. Definitely a Leafwing, pretty dull-colored too. Kind of a dark, lichen green. He had a very odd smell about him that the youngster couldn't quite place, and there were a few obvious scars that scattered across his front talons, and some on his arms as well. All in all, he was an interesting sight to say the least.
Cyprus blinked up at the dragon. "W- Who... are you?" He asked hesitantly, edging slightly backwards.
"Me?" he queried. "I'm just an old fool nobody gives a dropping about." the dragon snorted.
"The real question would be "who are you", except I don't care, so the actual real question is why the coconuts are you in my camp." The older Leafwing said very matter-of-factly.
"I... well- I, um..." Cyprus stammered, unsure of what to say.
"Oh, stop your blubbering." He quipped. "Spit it out. You've got a tongue."
"Well- a bunch of big bad dragons came-- and- and they took my daddy and they got my mommy and my sister and then almost me but then it exploded and I got away and I ran away all night and..." The dragonet paused, gasping for breath. "...And I guess I fell asleep." He concluded, looking down.
"Hm. That's tough." The older dragon said after that, softening somewhat. "Family got knocked out, huh?" The youngster nodded. "Did you see what the other dragons looked like?" the elder asked.
"I- uh- hm. I think they were... Hive-wings?" Cyprus said hesitantly. "They looked weird."
"They were scary." He shuddered.
The old dragon's brain started to stir. "Hivewings? In the poison jungle? On a mission like this?? I thought we were at peace. How would they even know their way around? There's only a few Hivewings that I could think of that would even know anything about this place, and none of th--
Oh.
Oh wait."
He snapped back to the present, shoving down an old memory that threatened to distract him from the present moment.
He sighed. "So what's your name, kid?"
"Me? Uh- I'm... I'm Cyprus." The dragonet mumbled.
"Hmph. Guess I've heard worse." The elder said shortly.
A pause ensued.
"Well, come along if you want breakfast. I guess little grubs like you have to eat too." He said, turning and starting to walk away.
Breakfast sounded great, but there was something Cyprus was a little more concerned about.
"But- do you think you can help get my parents and my sister back?" He asked, thinking that certainly this big dragon could do something about this.
The Leafwing stopped and turned to look at him. "Don't know if there's any way I could. Considering what happened, chances of that look really slim, kid."
Cyprus looked for a moment as if he was about to cry when he heard that.
"But hey, listen. Come along and we'll talk. But I need my breakfast so I'm going. Take it or leave it."
The older dragon soon found the little Leafwing trotting up to join him.
"So-- what's your name?" He asked a second time.
He turned sharply to look at Cyprus, staring intensely into his eyes for a moment, studying him.
Finally he spoke.
"Name's Ironwood."
Hmm, let me see what the rest of this spoiler sa—

NOOOOOOODISCLAIMER: Dark/somewhat traumatizing
The room was gloomy, and dead silent.
The one flamesilk lantern on the wall provided little light and not the slightest sound.
Heavy metal bars separated the still form of a dragon from the outside world.
From his family.
From freedom.
Freedom that he knew he would never see again.
Kudzu opened his eyes slowly, their lids heavy and drooping. The dungeon fumed oppressively of smoke, and breathing was difficult.
This was a horrid place, something he'd hoped he would never see again. But here he was.
Heavy footsteps could be heard pacing down the hall towards his cell. The Leafwing raised his head just in time to see a burly Hivewing guard bang his spear on the cell bars. The clanging noise rang sharply in Kudzu's ears, making him wince. "Son of a hyena" he muttered under his breath.
"Get your sorry butt up and off the ground. You've been summoned." The guard snapped. "Now this should be real interesting." He muttered with a slight grin, mostly to himself.
The Leafwing groaned. He could barely move, and his muscles felt like mashed up jelly fungi. Refusing to speak to the guard, he slowly rose and made his way to the door as it was opened.
Another Hivewing joined the first and they each took one of his forelimbs, dragging him about twice the speed he would've been able to walk on his own in this state. Stupid drowse serum.
Eventually they reached two large metal doors, which the first guard again banged on with his spear, rapping sharply.
"Enter." They heard a cool, low voice speak from the other side of the doorway. "It's about time, too."
The doors opened and they walked into a rather large room.
At the end of the room was a raised throne with a red-orange Hivewing sitting on it.
As their eyes locked, Kudzu shuddered with horror. A flood of memories began to burst into his brain as if a mental dam were breaking- no, being wrenched open.
"Well well well..." She chuckled. "Been a long time, my boy."
I'm not your boy. The Leafwing's expression darkened, but he remained silent.
"Thought you were such a clever little thiefwing that you could steal yourself, eh?" Her eyes narrowed. "But out of all the many things you learned from me, you seem to have forgotten one thing. Nobody steals from Hornet and gets away with it. Nobody."
He swallowed but did not respond.
"Chatty tonight, aren't we? Well Kudzu, I suppose you're going to have to make me do something drastic just so we can see if your voice still works, aren't you."
The dragon looked up, meeting her gaze coldly. What does she have in mind?
"Bring them in." She snapped, nodding at two guards positioned at a side door.
Moments later they reappeared, dragging Liana and Arnica with them. Seeing this was nearly too much to bear for Kudzu, and he had to make an intentional effort to prevent himself from slumping to the floor.
"Mate and dragonet, hey?" The Hivewing smirked at them. "Looks like you've been busy." She remarked, her eyes flicking back towards the prisoner.
"And what an absolute waste of time too, since all that hard work that you put into this "family" and "independence" worthlessness is about to be completely erased to nothing." Hornet taunted in mock empathy.
Kudzu's eyes narrowed into amber slits that fairly glowed with fear and rage. "If you even dare to so much as lay a tal--"
"Then you'll WHAT?" She roared so violently that it made the cavern ring.
A tense, deadly silence ensued as the Leafwing gave no reply, not offering to finish his statement.
"That's what I thought." Hornet said, her tone returning to a normal volume.
"If you think that you have even the slightest bit of control over your life anymore, you'd better think again. You've forced it to be taken out of your talons, and now you have to suffer the consequences."
"Hey you." She said, turning to Liana. "Yeah, mrs. Thiefwing the traitor. You."
The dragoness' head snapped up, her eyes staring penetratingly into the Hivewing's.
"I don't suppose that you'd be any more- let's say... agreeable than this piece of elephant dung over here? I mean, seriously, how would you feel if you were completely abandoned, stepped on, and betrayed by someone you thought of as a son?"
Upon this thought, Liana's mind instantly flicked to Cyprus. What had happened to him? Was he safe? Where had he gone to?
"Well?"
The Leafwing's thoughts snapped back to the present. "I really don't see how somebody like you could ever deserve any level of trust from another dragon." She replied coldly. "It seems to me that all you do is stomp on the ones that you don't like."
"Oh really now." Hornet said, a scowl spreading across her face, clearly irritated with this answer. "If that's really what you've been brainwashed to believe, how about we just go ahead and test that theory."
"Sandfly." She snapped.
The Hivewing soldier stepped up behind Liana, spear held in the air.
Hornet turned back to the Leafwing. "And what if I decide I don't like you?"
She snorted slightly before checking herself. "Your loss, I guess."
A sinister chuckle ensued from the dragon on the throne.
"Funny. But actually...
It's theirs." She said, glancing at Kudzu and Arnica.
"Sandfly, if you would please."
Kudzu looked up, his eyes widening with horror. "NO-"
Arnica screamed.
As the spear plunged straight through her back and chest, Liana's final waking thoughts were simply-
You're going to be judged for this some day, snake.
I love you, my precious family.
Goodbye.
Sorry for the traumaNOOOOOOO
